My Doll Profiles and FAQ
------------------------------------------------------
I was reading through the lovely
's FAQ, and decided that I also needed one... and that I need to update more often, since I'm currently in possession of a doll with changing looks x__X
Remember, you're more than welcome to ask me more questions about dolls, but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to answer them all. If you're actively interested and are considering getting a doll yourself, or you just want to know more, Den of Angels or DoA, as we call it, is a forum dedicated to Ball Joint Dolls.
You'll just need to join to post or see any forums. If you really want to know, I can try to answer the questions for you.
Okay, now for the questions, please feel free to suggest more. Thanks. :3

What are BJD/ABJD?
BJD is an abbreviation for Ball Joint Doll. The A in front sometimes means "Asian" but there are a few talented people who make dolls here on dA and they're not from Asia, I prefer BJD, but hey. Each to their own. I'll stop blabbering now.
How much are they?
Well, they cost about $500 US dollars, cheaper ones can be anything from $100 - $300 US dollars, but generally, it's the size that makes the difference.
Size? What do you mean?
BJDs are arranged in size categories, starting from the first BJD company Volks it pretty much goes:
SD16 - 17 = Luts Super Senior Delf = Iplehouse EID = 70cm
SD13 Long Leg = Luts Senior Delf = Iplehouse YID = 60 - 64cm
SD13 - Luts Delf = 58 - 60cm (this type is a little odd on sizing)
MSD - Luts Kid Delf = Iplehouse JID = 42 - 45cm
YoSD - Luts Honey Delf = 20cm or smaller
There are smaller ones, and different companies have different sizes, but these are the absolute basics.
You mentioned Doll Companies, could you list some please?
I'll list the ones I mentioned:
Volks [link]
Luts [link]
Iplehouse [link]
Crobidoll [link]
Dollmore [link]
and Latidoll [link] (Where Eddy's head came from)
also Migidoll [link] (Where Ryuuzaki's head came from)
Oh, cool, did you make it/them?
No, the ones you've seen are from Migidoll and Latidoll, and the body is from Luts. I've only customized them.
Those clothes they're wearing, did you make them?
No, most of my clothes come from doll companies such as Crobidoll and CheeryDoll. I've only made a bag, a hat and a shirt so far... and by made... well, I cut up an old sock and tied it on the side, and used the toes end for a beanie, and I hand sewed a messenger bag. That's as far as my seamstress skills will go.
What about those accessories? Did you make them?
As mentioned above, I made a hat and a bag, nothing else so far. My accessories come from Crobidoll and Dollmore.
What about the piercings?
The lipring is superglued onto his lip, and the ear piercings were made by hand drilling through the resin, it takes about 10-15 mins. The earrings I got from various stores, and I find bits of small rubber lying around and use it for rings and necklaces.
You said you did their 'faceup' what's that?
A faceup is the makeup on a dolls face. Since it's resin, no oil based products can be used, since it will destroy the resin. I use watercolour pencils, acrylic paints, pastels and to seal it, I use MSC.
MSC?
Mister Super Clear, a sealant made of resin to seal resin.
They look so real, are they... anatomically correct?
Heh, yes. Yes they are. That's part of my joy of collecting BJDs, since they look so real, but they're not.
What sort of camera do you use?
A poor neglected camera that's sitting on my floor. Canon Power Shot A550. Not a cheap nor expensive Digital Camera. It does the job, and I'm not complaining. I'm not big on photography anyway.
Do you edit your photos? Or is that just good lighting?
I edit them, I use Paint.net and Paintshop Pro 7. I usually adjust the brightness/ contrast and add sepia. I cringe at the unedited photos.
Can I use your photos?
Only if you do not claim them as your own, and they're not stock photos either. I don't mind if the picture inspired you, but tracing the pose, or drawing an identical one will make me angry. Also, if you want to use my photos for anything, please get my permission first, and tell me where you'll use it. Same goes for my art. Unless we've already spoken about it.

And I think that sums up all the FAQ I'd ask myself.
Please don't hesitate to ask questions that haven't been asked yet, or demand better answers to questions you don't understand.
